Dinosaur Valley Endurance Run

100 Mile / 100K / 50K / Half Marathon / 5 Mile

November 3-4, 2018 (all races start Saturday, November 3rd)

Changes for the 2018 Race

Going into the 5th year of this race, and our 3rd year at this venue, we will be making the following changes to make the experience even better for all our participants:

  • Additional Water Stop - There will be an unmanned water-only aid station after the first river crossing (applies to all distances but the 5 miler). This will take the longest stretch between aid stations from 6 miles down to 5 miles. It's incredibly difficult for us to get water to a spot earlier than that to make that split even smaller. We found in 2017 in unusually hot weather that those with handheld water bottles really struggled with the 6 mile segment.
  • New Start Days and Times - All distances this year will start Saturday morning. While this means the second day will be potentially more lonely for the 100 milers and 100K participants, it will also mean our volunteers can focus more on helping those longest distance runners finish their race successfully. To spread the field and allow enough time so that the shorter distances won't overtake the longer distances as much, the 100 mile, 100K, 50K will all start at 8 am on Saturday, while the half marathon and 5 Mile will start at 9 am. The 9 am start also works well for those driving in from Dallas and Fort Worth Saturday morning!
  • New Shorter Distance Offered - We have added a 5 mile race. Like the half marathon and 50K, 5 milers will receive a finisher medal when they complete their race. Each year, The Active Joe Trail Series provides a high quality finisher plaque to display your finisher medals when you do all three of our trail races from fall 2018 to spring 2019. While Rough Creek Trail Run and Cross Timbers Trail Run offer shorter distances (a 10K and 5 miler, respectively), we did not have anything under a half marathon for this event. By adding a 5 miler, it makes earning the finisher plaque a more accessible quest to many!

  • Race Morning Course Marking Check - We will be offering comp entries for other The Active Joe races to mountain biker and runner/hiker volunteers who can go out race morning at 6:30 am to check crucial course marking intersections. In 2017, we had older teenagers who tore down markings in the middle of the night before the 100 miler, and it was a scramble to fix them when we learned about this after the 100 miler started! Email us at Libby@TheActiveJoe.com if you are interested!
  • Ice at the Aid Stations - There will be ice available beginning from the first time you hit an aid station race morning. Last year we learned that dealing with sudden emergencies (course vandalism) right after the start of the race took away the time we would be buying and distributing ice on the course, especially since accessing some aid stations are harder than others.
  • Bib Nickname - we will offer a nickname to be printed on your race bib if you register by the bib printing deadline (September 15). Pick a good one or our fantastic volunteers will likely give you one that day, especially for those we will take care of for multiple loops over the two days!
